Almagro has its origin on the XIII
century by the hands of a monks called "Cataravos",
who choose this place as their residence and as the hometown
of their possesions.
In the Modern Ages, and because of
the financial problems of the King Charles I, the Fuggers,
a famous and rich family from Deutschland, moved to this
city. This family, as well as the Wessel and the Xedler,
made this town grow.
On the XVII and XVIII centuries many
factories were founded in Almagro, particulary, textil industries.
All this factors contributed to make the town become the
capital of its region, La Mancha.
To walk around this city means an invitation
to discover its past, its legend of monks and warriors,
its beautiful churches. Nowadays, Almagro leads the cultural
movement of La Mancha, and its International Theatre Festival
is well known for its quality and prestige.
